UPDATE: Allegation 7 (of 23) is live.
Allegation 11:
Summary:
This one is a little more lighthearted than the other allegations. I suspect it won’t look as serious to you, but, having been on the receiving end of it, I can tell you that it was actually devastating.
I’m going to go easy on the footnotes and evidence, but if I get bored I might amend to include those at a future date.
Judge Longsworth regularly engaged in undignified, rude language, in violation of Michigan Code of Judicial Conduct, Canon 3 A(3).
Details:
Insults to my intelligence-
Judge Longsworth loved to insult my intelligence, calling me dumb. She openly wondered how I had my job, given my intelligence level.
She told me she was going to have me write out orders to make sure I understood them.
She made me repeat orders to her, to make sure I understood them.
She regularly resorted to insults, put downs and humiliating language and actions.
Implying a lack of love or care for my kids-
Judge Longsworth made a statement about me caring more for my career than my kids. She called me a bad, incompetent mom, obstinate. She said it was my fault my daughter ran away during the defendant’s parenting time and had to be taken to the ER for care[1].
In early June 2025, she ordered the defendant and I to present to the court the names and availabilities of potential therapists for the kids. I understood her request was for us to generate these lists independently, and provide them to her for review. But, I cannot locate this request in transcripts to confirm, so it is possible there was misunderstanding on someone’s end. What I do know is that neither myself nor the defendant attempted to coordinate with one another, but instead we both brought in independent lists, therefore, it seems that both he and I, along with all our lawyers, had the same understanding of the directions that had been issued from Judge Longsworth.
Nonetheless, on 6/16/2025 Judge Longsworth said that she had ordered us to coordinate to jointly agree on a therapist, and that we had not done so and this is evidence we are incapable of meeting the most basic needs of our kids[2].
Threats to custody-
On 4/11/2025, Judge Longsworth said the defendant and I had to come to an agreement on parenting time, otherwise she would come up with something we wouldn’t like.
On 6/24/2025, Judge Longsworth said I was either dumb or playing dumb, and either way it would be taken into consideration for custody. It was clear that her disdain for me was a threat to the safety of my kids.
Intimidation and Temper Tantrums-
Judge Longsworth regularly used angry and intimidating tones, often raising her voice.
She raised her voice, yelling at me because I was speaking too softly in her court room. She later got angry at me for speaking to my lawyer too loudly. I intentionally spoke to my lawyer in a volume slightly above a whisper because she had just stressed to me how noisy the court room was and how hard it was to hear in there, so I was worried my lawyer could not hear me. Based on her anger, I was attempting to adjust my volume to something appropriate, to no avail.
Once, while testifying, I asked for clarification to a question she asked me. She responded by getting angry and saying that my seeking clarification itself answered her question. I was under oath, and I did not answer the question, yet she considered that I had made a sworn statement. She assumed what that statement was, and got angry about what she assumed I was going to say. I have no idea what she assumed my sworn answer was, as to this day I still don’t understand her question- which seemed to me to have been formed on the basis of a misunderstanding of something I had said earlier. That is why I sought clarification, not because I’m an idiot.
It is unconscionable that a judge could assume to know my thoughts and motivations, and legally judge me based on those assumed thoughts and motivations which could only properly be attributed to her- as she alone was the source of them. Not me.
How many of her thoughts has she improperly projected onto me, and judged me for?
On at least one occasion, Judge Longsworth slammed her binder shut, in a bullying, immature expression of frustration.
Cruelty-
When my daughter was taken to the ER during a court hearing involving both myself and the defendant (her father), Judge Longsworth refused to adjourn so that I could go to the hospital and join my child (the defendant stated he was not interested in going, and preferred that my daughter be left alone so she could learn a lesson). I was in the court room openly sobbing for my child, in an uncontrollable panic from worry that she was hurt, scared, and alone. My lawyer pointed out that I was incapable of participating in a hearing in that condition. Rather than showing any human compassion for me or my child, Judge Longsworth blamed me for my daughter’s hospitalization, and denied me any opportunity to check on her. She refused to adjourn the hearing. See video of 6/24/2025 hearing.
Is this the behavior expected in what is purported to be one of the most dignified places in our government? For a family court judge, who is tasked with putting the best interest of the children first, Judge Longsworth did not seem to have any concern for my kids. She did not have any concern for crushing their caretaker.
Even if Judge Longsworth passionately hated me, and looked for any opportunity to drive me to end my life, she could have shown the smallest bit of care for my kids.
Impact of this behavior and lack of decorum-
I am not a criminal, and I am going to court under the most stressful time in my life. I am not a lawyer or legal professional, knowing how proceedings go or how to interpret court orders perfectly. Despite what people may think, court orders are not black and white, and Judge Longsworth did not welcome questions about them. I don’t know what Friend of the Court handles, vs a Referee, vs a Judge. I am not an expert at hearsay rules. Prior to this, I did not know what a forensic interview was (something else Judge Longsworth got angry with me about). Testifying makes me nervous. I am simply doing my best and trying to get through this situation so that I can get a divorce and move on with my life as soon as possible. Rather than seeking to keep the situation calm for the sake of the kids, Judge Longsworth threw fuel on the fire by picking sides, and resorting to name-calling, insulting, tearing me down at her whim, threatening to take my kids from me, imagining what my sworn testimony would be and then holding me accountable for whatever she dreamed I was about to say, and any other cruel thing she believed she could get away with.
This caused me to avoid speaking in my own defense, and to avoid speaking at all. I was under intense pressure to avoid angering the beast, lest she further draw the divorce out or inflict harm on my kids. In fact, I did not testify in my own defense at my most recent civil contempt hearing for that very reason. Opening my mouth only ever gave her opportunity to call me names, insult me, and tear me down even more. She didn’t believe anything I said, or anything said in my defense, anyhow.
This scared me into submission, into agreeing to things I did not agree with (specifically, revising the PPO to allow defendant to attend children’s events with me, and allowing unsupervised visitation- all on 4/11/2025). The threat of taking my kids was ever on my mind. This pressured me into tip toeing when I raised concerns about the abuses my kids were enduring, as it was made clear that she wanted me to shut up about that, and would blame me for anything that happened. It was made clear that she did not believe the allegations, regardless of their source, especially when she banned my kids from attending therapy at LaCasa, claiming it was not appropriate for them[3]. I assume because LaCasa offers services for domestic violence victims, and Judge Longsworth determined that did not apply to us.
But the therapists at LaCasa thought it did. My kids had gone through an extensive forensic interview at LaCasa. They deemed the kids and I to be appropriate candidates for their services. However, Judge Longsworth, who had never met my kids, found herself more capable than an actual therapist who had done an in-person evaluation, in determining the kids therapeutic needs. And, despite my scheduling an intake with LaCasa, getting the kids qualified, and waiting for an opening there (this was quite an extensive process), Judge Longsworth ordered me to cancel the appointments and said she wondered about my abilities, and that I was incapable of caring for the basic needs of my kids.
I am not an incapable parent, I am simply a parent who was forced to balance between protecting my kids and risking losing them completely. I am a parent who was forced choose between shoving my kids out the door to force them to be at risk of being abused for a few days per week, or risk losing them to be abused the entire week. That’s who I am.
Ultimately, we all know what happened. She took my kids from me, as I believe was the plan from the beginning, regardless of what I did or didn’t do.
Before closing, since I did not invest the time in adding references to each of these insults, I thought I’d leave you with a little treat, a little taste of Longsworth. An insult word salad. She must have been feeling very creative this day, because she even invented a word! This slew of insults which were not tied to any actual, particular event, but rather seemed to be just her expressing anger in her usual bullying manner. At least she was fair and lobbed these at both the defendant and I. Apparently, we are: selfish, obstinate with one another, obstinate with the Court (wouldn’t want her to feel left out), practitioners of gamesmanship, egocentrical (there’s the invented word by Judge Longsworth!), and ideological- not sure where that one came from, that one was unexpected. Good thing my kids are under her expert judicial care, Heaven only knows what would come of them without her. Or, is it unfortunate that they are under her care. That seems to be her opinion, and frankly, I think she’s actually right this time. Finally, something we agree on.
These (and other gems) are all contained in Exhibit 17, page 13.
